Our Farm

Nestled in the foothills of the Southern Appalachians, Overlook Farm has been home to the Woolsey family for over two centuries. The farm was originally settled by John Woolsey in 1779 on property he received as a land grant for distinguished service in the Revolutionary War. Because Tennessee had not yet achieved statehood, the farm was at first located in the “overmountain” area of North Carolina, but now sits in northeastern Tennessee near the historic town of Greeneville. Along with other endeavors, John raised beef cattle, a practice that would prove a constant through each successive descendant.

Today, seven generations later, Overlook Farm remains family-owned & operated by Roger and Doug Woolsey, who are great-great-great-great-grandsons of the original owner. Although the farm has undergone many changes throughout the years, the original acreage continues to be a part of the operation and our methods and values have remained constant. But as time progresses, so must family farms, prompting us to create a vision for the future of Overlook Farm in which we forge a direct connection with our consumers and the community we call home.

Happy Animals, Better Food.

At Overlook Farm, our mission is to provide a local source of naturally raised beef that is unmatched in both quality and nutrition, while, at the same, revitalizing our local economy and preserving the traditions of family farms in our area and across the country.

All of our cattle are Angus certified, born on our farm, and grass-fed from birth. The mountainous nature of the East Tennessee terrain, while unsuited to large-scale row cropping, affords ample space for rotational grazing. By maintaining these sustainable farming practices and strict genetic standards, we are able to provide customers with the finest premium beef and ensure the farm will remain a viable operation for generations to come.
